The end of privacy.
Today if you don't have a Facebook or twitter account, you're more than likely to be condemned and ostracised for being a plain looser. Then again, how much of our lives are really private now with this online presence? Things you probably did in a drunken stupor or out of rage or in a sheer moment of immaturity could cost you a job, a friend, a spouse or even your life. Once you've posted it and people have seen it, it's not longer your little secret anymore is it. I was just sitting here wondering how much of our lives we put on display for the whole world to see. Sometimes I think people don't take pictures to capture a wonderful moment anymore, it's more so to post on Facebook, so much so the actual moment Is lost in trying to get the best angle where you look absolutely gorgeous. Nowadays all you need to do to dig up some dirt on someone is snoop around a little on their Facebook profiles. Sometimes the things we post could really leave a lifelong impact on who we are as a person. And there as those who use facebook as a platform to vent their frustrations about someone and post nasty statuses attacking someone (supposedly in code, so thy don't get it. Urm like seriously?) who gives anyone the right to tarnish someone on a public forum? And there are those who "like" these and make sure they leave their share on it too. Like u know, it's so fun to bitch about someone online, we're oh so cool! Seriously, some people need to grow up. And there are those -"I'm going to the toilet!! Hehe;) " like the whole world needed to know that? I'm wondering if it's the immature mind that relates to this or is it just not wanting to be left out, being uncool if you don't say vile things about people . Flaunting flashy clothes, lavish lifestyles, what about those who might not be able to afford all of that? Is Facebook a way of keeping in touch with people you care for or a platform to showcase just how brilliant you are. Not forgetting adding random people just to increase the friend count and be the most happening person around.
But more than anything i was thinking of how public our lives are today. Its so easy for someone to take your pictures, your numbers, your address, there are so many things people could do with all of that. All the malicious wolves out there have much to celebrate with today's easy access to prey. Its difficult to stay protected when every little thing you do is out there for everyone to see. I'm not even bothering with the privacy settings. Been there. Done that. Hmmm got me thinking today as I celebrate the first anniversary of deactivating my fb account. I don't miss it. Those who matter have kept in touch, those who don't who gives a ;) not saying I will never go back to fb,but my understanding of having an online presence has drastically changed. What about your blog you make ask.. I'm not ridiculing anyone personally. I don't even wish for people to read this. My blog is almost invisible and it's my own free space. It can be ignored, unlike the feeds that pop up on your fb wall. So ya just a fodder for thought. How true are we to ourselves really? Think about it. Stay safe.
